Problem: I can't configure the location list.

 

Solutions: Reasons for this issue vary, and there are some tips:

  1. In case you don't know, please refer to How can I launch the configuration page
  2. Make sure you have the latest version from http://www.aniweather.com.
  3. If you have an old version of AniWeather, please uninstall it before install the latest one. Although this is not required, it will reduce the chance of encountering troubles. Please refer to how to uninstall AniWeather.
  4. After you install AniWeather, you will be directed to a welcome page at the first time you launch your browser. You can configure your AniWeather by scolling down to the perference session of the welcome page.
  5. Make sure after you change your setting, you need to scroll down to the end of the page and choose "OK" to confirm your change.
  6. For AniWeather 0.6.16 on Chrome, there is a bug that uses a wrong configuration page. If this is the version you are using, please upgrade it to the latest version.



Problem: In Firefox, after change the temperature unit, only the units for current and today are changed, but the remaining ones are untouched.

 

Solutions: There is a suspicious Firefox bug where certain changes in the toolbar/statusbar might not be updated timely. We are working on a work-around about this issue. In the mean time, restart Firefox will clear the issue.




Problem: AniWeather does not work well with FlashBlock and NoScript.

 

Solutions: Basically you need to switch on the Use Cross-Addon-Compability (CAC) mode in AniWeather. It is quite simple:

  • Make sure you are using the latest version from www.aniweather.com
  • Open your configuration page
  • Scroll down to the (almost) end, and check the option "Use Cross-Addon-Compability (CAC) mode".
  • Click OK and (recommended) restart your browser.
  • Add both aniweather.com and aniweather.s3.amazonaws.com to the whitelist of your noscipt, where the latter url contains AniWeather's flash content. Please do NOT add the while amazonaws.com domains because it may cause your security issue.


Problem: How can I uninstall AniWeather?

 

Solutions: depending on what browser you are using:

  1. Firefox: Choose "Tools/Add-ons" from Firefox menu. In the add-on dialog, find the entrance for AniWeather, and click the "uninstall" button.
  2. Chrome: Choose "Manage extensions" from Chrome menu, or directly type "chrome://extensions" in the address bar. This will show up the extension management page. Find the entrance for AniWeather, and click the "uninstall" butotn.
Make sure to restart your browser to have your uninstallation take effect.


Problem: Release note page keeps showing up?

 

Solutions: Here are the instructions on how to check your version:

  1. In the address bar, type about:config, and enter.
  2. You may be warned about the warranty, just confirm you understand the risk
  3. In the input titled as "filter", input "extensions.aniweather.buildNo"
  4. From the filtered results, check the value for the buildNo. It should be the same as your AniWeather version. e.g., if you are using 0.8.16, this number should be 816.
  5. If your value is not consistent with your version number, double click the value to correct it.
  6. Restart your Firefox

Problem: How can I launch the configuration page?

 

Solutions: AniWeather uses a web based configuration system for enhanced user experience and timely update. In order to launch the configuration page:

  1. Firefox: From menu "Tools/Add-ons/Extensions/AniWeather/Options".
  2. In both Firefox and Chrome: after you launch the 5-day animation report, there is a "Setting" button on the left-bottom corner of the animation screen. Click the button to navigate to the configuration page.


Problem: How to turn AniWeather off?

 

Solutions: In your Firefox browser, click Tools, then Add-ons. Find Aniweather on the list. Click on it then click Disable. (Credit: lymacaughman)


Problem: I messed things up and don't know what to do

 

Solutions: Don't worry. You can create a new profile and install AniWeather from scratch. This is usually a very efficient way to figure out issues. Here is how to create a new profile.


Problem: Where is wind speed?

 

Solutions: AniWeather shows wind speed in both the real time update and the 5-day forecast.


Problem: How to clear cached weather data?

 

Solutions: when you encounter out-of-date weather data, you can try to clear your cached weather data:

 

  1. Uninstall your current AniWeather, and restart your Firefox.
  2. In the address bar, type about:config, and enter.
  3. You may be warned about the warranty, just confirm you understand the risk
  4. In the input titled as "filter", input "aniweather"
  5. From the filtered results, find
    "extensions.aniweather.xxxxxx.current" and
    extensions.aniweather.xxxxxx.forecast, where "xxxxxx" is some location
    id, e.g., for New York it may be "USNY0996".
  6. Right click on any of such items, and choose "reset" from the popup
    menu. This will clear any cached weather data.
  7. Restart your Firefox
  8. Reinstall AniWeather from:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12331
  9. Restart your Firefox again.


Problem: Text in the popup is bleeding over itself?

 

Solutions: This is an issue when Firefox browser only zooms text (but not others such as images). Here is how to fix it: under your firefox menu "View/Zoom", make sure "Zoom Text Only" is not checked.


Problem: How to turn off alert manually?

 

Solutions: Weather alerts should be turned off automatically once you hover your mouse over it. But in case it didn't, here is how to turn it off manually:

  1. Follow the instruction to open AniWeather's configuration data.
  2. In the filter type "alertStatus".
  3. From the filtered results, you will see a list of items with value "[id]&[0/1]", where [id] is the location id and [0/1] is the alert on/off status.
  4. If you know the id of your location, change the [0/1] status to 0 from 1.
  5. If you don't know the id of your lcoation, change all of them to 0 from 1.
  6. Restart your Firefox again.

Solutions: In Firefox you can access all configuration data following the steps below:

  1. In the address bar, type about:config, and enter.
  2. You may be warned about the warranty, just confirm you understand the risk
  3. In the input titled as "filter", input "aniweather"
